About our League Teams
Yate bowls play in 3 leagues. The NE Bristol League, Division 1, the Cotswold League, Division 2 and the Bristol Ladies League.
The NE Bristol League is played on a Thursday evening and is a mixed league.
The Cotswold League is played on a Tuesday evening and is a mens only league.
The Bristol Ladies League is played on a Wednesday/Friday evening and is a ladies league.
Members can put their names forward for either or both teams. The team will be selected by the Team Captain and Vice-Captain endeavouring to pick the best team as well as to give everyone a chance of playing at some point.

About our internal club competitions
Our internal competitions are open to all playing members, although some (such as the Seniors and Novices) have specific entry requirements. You can enter the competitions in April. The first rounds of the various competitions will be drawn in early May in the Clubhouse and there are typically gaps of 3 weeks between rounds.
The competitions are NOT played on set dates - it's up to the challenger to arrange the game and offer 3 dates to his/her opponent.

There is a charge of £3 per entry to each competition.

Men's / Ladies' Championship
Winner is first player to 21 shots, played with 4 woods.
The Championship winners get an automatic entry into the following season's Gloucestershire County Champion of Champions. If they wish to enter the National Champion of Champions competition, the club pays the entry fee.

Men's Handicap Singles
Winner is first player to 21 shots, played with 4 woods.

Each entrant will have a handicap decided by Men's Committee. Scoreboard set to reflect handicap before game starts. (e.g. A 6-handicap vs a 2-handicap will read 6-2 before a wood has been bowled). First to 21 wins, so winner may only have to score 12 to win (with handicap of 9).

'51 up' Mixed Singles
6 points available on each end, which are applied in order (3 for shot, 2 for second and 1 for third). Shot wood takes the jack. Played with 4 woods. Winner is the player who reaches 51 first. This means, for example, if Player A is on 48 points and Player B is on 49 points at the start of the end and, after all the bowls have been delivered in the next end, Player B scores shot (3 points, making 51) then the rest of the points are not awarded even though Player A might have had second and third shots (3 points). The '51 up' competition is open to all Members of the Club.
